About

Tim Eustace officially became an Old Man in June 2008. i.e. he had a Major Birthday. His cute, charming, witty and loving wife Jacky kindly told him that as a present for the Big Year he could go sailing (and Tim loves sailing) as much as he wanted during the coming 12 months. So Tim did what?

Precisely nothing.

Towards the end of that time, Tim’s pal Tom pointed out that Tim had squandered his opportunity and suggested Tim should renegotiate his present to include the longest ocean race in the RORC‘s calendar – the ARC race from Gran Canaria to St Lucia. On Tom and Karen’s boat Nightlife.

And so, after a bit of negotiation with Karen, it came to be…….

Postscript….

And we won it! You’d think that would be sufficient, wouldn’t you? But No, we have to keep doing daft things, so we bought a bigger, faster boat and called her ‘Nightfall’, in deference to her older sister who’d done us so proud. So, then, chaps, suggestions for the Next Big Race……?

Well done Dad, uncle Rob and crew

The BBC in Berkshire is waiting to interview the winning skipper when he’s had a glass of bubbly!

Details of the winners are also being sent to BBC 5 Live and the BBC News Channel (formerly News 24) so expect stardom!

  6. HI Tom and all the crew

2.30 Wednesday UK time, and Karen has just made the rounds with a bottle or three of bubbley. Here at UPS Systems we have all raised our glasses in congratulations, and to a terrific achievement. Very well done. Enjoy the shore leave.

    Kind Regards

  7. Hi Tom,
Congratulations on the ARC success, I am particularly pleased to see Nightlife win such a prestigious race as I was the business partner of George Gros who originally had nightlife commissioned and built.Furthermore I designed and installed a great deal of the electrical and electronic systems on the boat, I was also partly instrumental in naming her Nightlife as we used to run a project management design and fit out company aimed at clubs and leisure venues, hence the name!
As George has sadly passed away it would be nice to see the boat sometime when it is next in UK?

    Kind Regards

    Hi Tom and Crew,
Congratulations, on a fantastic result. I have very fond memories of Nightlife since the day we launched her and your success will mean a lot to the 80s crew who enjoyed the speed and comfort of this much underrated David Thomas design. Nice to see her still going strong and in good hands.
    Michael
